They say hobbies are the spice of life - or at least I do. I think it's a vital part of being a human being. If we don't enjoy some personal project, or some activity that stimulates us outside of our regular work week, I think we miss out on enriching our minds, expressing our joys, and finding a little peace. Making time to do something fun just for the sake of the activity helps me to reset, refresh, and destress. I'm usually loaded with work, often balancing raising my child mixed into client meetings, drafting and sketching, and creating refined artwork for books. So what does someone like me do for fun?

In one word, SQUIRRELS.

I've had a fantastic journey with these squirrels, and they continue to give me a sense of release from my regular life stress. There's no expectation, no direction they need to follow. They're just there, to make. And sometimes we don't know what the point is - but they always make me and my husband laugh and we look forward to getting excited this time of year. Since I do have another full-time job, I can't make them all the time and travel all over the country selling art (although someday if life allows, it's certainly a dream!). However, I can block out one month before the holidays really take over, to go out and hang with people and offer them my silly squirrely business.

I get such a joy out of this experience - to get away from the house, the studio the normal. To meet random strangers, who often have hilarious stories to tell, lively energy to bring to the booth, and we get to laugh and smile about all things squirrely. Whether you love them or hate them, everyone knows what a squirrel is. There have been stories of squirrels decimating attic spaces, terrorizing people's decks, and stories of rescued squirrels who have bonded to their rescuers like children. Over the years of getting to know more and more about squirrels - and the people that respond to them - the more I've loved and appreciated how they weave themselves into our lives and can make for a great conversation. It's even inspired my own family members to join in - often my son will run around and hand out free stickers to kids throughout the event.

Here's where you can find us next month. If you're in the Georgia or South Carolina region this November, we'd love to meet you in person at one of our annual art booths!

November 7-8     "Cartersville Christmas Village" at the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville, GA.

November 15   "3rd Annual Holiday Market on Paris Ave" in Port Royal (Beaufort), SC

November 21-23     "Christmas Made in the South" located at the Savannah Convention Center in Savannah, GA
